Maywood Lux Series- Tiny Home on Wheels Project

I am so excited that this project is finally finished! I started helping people design and remodel their homes about two years ago, in 2022. I instantly fell in love with the entire process of designing and furnishing homes that people would love and feel comfortable in. A year after I began working on home remodels and additions, my husband suggested that we start a tiny home business. At first, I was skeptical, thinking, “Tiny homes? But they are so small!” I honestly didn’t like the idea at all.

Then, one day, I considered the potential for young people who have no place to live and can’t move out of their parents’ homes because the housing market in Idaho is outrageous. The idea that my dad, who is our foreman, has been in construction for the last thirty years and has had the privilege of working in high-end home building and custom artisan cabinetry for the last two decades gave me a new perspective. I realized this could be a perfect recipe for luxury tiny homes that are relatively affordable, allowing people to enjoy design and comfort without having to compromise due to smaller living spaces.

I told my husband I was on board, and true to the Harder spirit, we decided to purchase an Iron Eagle trailer designed for tiny homes. Initially, we planned to get a 30-foot trailer, but when I saw its length, I panicked and suggested that we start with the 22-foot model instead.

I went to Sketchup and drew a layout of how we could make this 22-foot trailer function with maximum storage, beauty, and comfort. These were the original designs I came up with.

Once the process began, there was no turning back! I wanted this home to be beautiful, comfortable, and incorporate plenty of storage solutions for small spaces. I believe we don’t need to sacrifice beauty for the sake of minimalism. Home is where we spend most of our time, and our surroundings significantly affect our emotional and mental well-being if we are in a space that does not inspire or motivate us. I want the owner of our tiny homes to walk in and instantly feel like they can focus on what matters most to them while I handle making their home move-in ready.

I can’t believe what a little ambition and a lot of faith can accomplish. We are preparing to sell this one and start the next one. My angst about getting a longer trailer is officially gone, too. I can’t wait to build a 30’+ home for someone!

Here are a few photos of the process and completed look! Let me know your thoughts and if you can live in a tiny home.

Keep Up with Courtney
