Bad days happen, even to people who love God. The Scriptures are full of stories that record people who are suffering from grief, fear, anxiety, and emotional turmoil, yet they still faithfully walk with God. Remember that when you read, “Do not fear,” it is because someone was in fear! We are created in His image; we were made to feel.

Job and the Psalms are perfect reminders that God doesn’t mind our feelings.

Correction does not come from having hard days, but from what we do with them. It comes when we don’t surrender our burdens to the Lord, when we try to carry the weight on our own, or when we offer our anxieties to the wrong things or people. God wants nothing more than for us to come to Him and give Him our worries. As the Scriptures say, “because He cares for you.”

Just the other day, I was feeling overwhelmed. I prayed that God would give me a Scripture to rest my anxiety in, and the verse came to mind: “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit.” Almost immediately, I felt relief. God’s Word softens our hearts and transforms our minds. This is why Scripture tells us that the Word of God is living and active, it pierces the heart and gives us fresh eyes to see and hear from Him.

When we turn to the Lord and His Word, He gives us peace unlike anything the world can offer, a peace that truly transcends all understanding.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or fearful, look to the Scriptures and allow the power of the Holy Spirit to revive you in truth and love. Write these verses down. Hang them on your mirror. Meditate on them daily. Let God meet you there.
